XCollar Cervical Splint is the first worldwide to be used for prehospital EMS. The XCollar is a New Cervical Immobilization System that ensures a higher standard of care by providing a significant reduction in cervical spinal movement and manipulation. The XCollar works as a splint to effectively immobilize the cervical spine above C-1 and below C-7.
Most of the old dogs in EMS can recall some of the original cervical collars, like the single-piece foam collar that wrapped around the neck and fastened with a single piece of Velcro. A neck warmer...yes, a cervical device...no.
Since that time, cervical devices have evolved into far more functional tools of the trade; however, virtually all of the CID’s currently on the market are designed to be applied to patients who can be placed in the neutral alignment. For those who can’t, typically because of pain with movement, it has still been a jury-rig of towels, blankets, and tape.
If a patient’s head cannot be placed back into a neutral position, the rescuer is required to improvise on how to best stabilize the patient’s cervical spine. The XCollar unique side-to-side adjustable design allows rescuers to stabilize patients in the position found, or the patient’s position of comfort.
It provides excellent immobilization for patients who can be positioned neutrally, as well as for those who are asymmetrical, working almost like a mini-backboard for the cervical spine. With 24 optional adjustments, you can literally “build” the XCollar around the patient, pretty much irrespective of their position. These sizing/fit options also allow the XCollar to be sized to fit both pediatric patients and adults, eliminating the need to carry multiple-size c-collars.
Current DOT studies show 25% of injuries seen at the emergency department are from transporting the patient. Thankfully, we now have the XCollar Cervical Splint which provide significant reduction in cervical spinal movement and manipulation by 50% over marketed collars.
Advantages of the XCollar included a cervical immobilization device that offers superior stabilization and support, patented side-to-side adjustment stabilizes patient’s in their position of comfort, maintains a neutral position across a broader range of patient’s body type and sizes, see through construction with greater visual and physical access to ears and airway structures, and provides effective and timely treatment to a large number of patients in MVC and MCI incidents.
