Deadly workplaces are killing Canadians and Americans at an unprecedented rate, resulting in 42,882 occupational fatalities in the U.S. and 10,743 in Canada between 2000 and 2010.*

In 2010, the American Heart Association released new guidelines for first aid and life support courses. With a new set of ACLS modules and ACLS test questions, 2011 certification courses will have some distinct differences from those based on the 2005 guidelines. Does this mean that individuals certified under the 2005 guidelines need to recertify right now?

Do you think the time it takes to capture a 12-lead ECG is worth it? Would you argue that a lack of transmission capability or a limit in protocols means you can’t do much with an ECG? This episode will challenge that thinking and encourage you to learn more about the power of an ECG and how much you really can do at first patient contact.
One thing is clear, accurate and consistent ECG interpretation requires broader exposure to 12-leads and the training to recognize issues.…

When it comes to saving lives, efficiency is key. In order to make sure that protocols for life-saving procedures are up to date, the American Heart Association evaluates existing guidelines and examines available research every five years in order to determine whether changes need to be made.
The most recent updates for advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), pediatric advanced life support (PALS), basic life support (BLS) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) were announced…

The start of changes are the most difficult when the rut you have walked in is so deep and all you can see is the level of the ground. Now you look at that and say to yourself "I want out", so now you start thinking creatively about how you are going to climb your way out. What I have experienced in my life is to never give up know matter how much things and family go against your every effort to change the life style that everybody is used to seeing you live. Now that I have…

What do you do when you trust someone with things of very importance and they let you down. Not only let you down but they got further as to steal. But I didn't want to believe that there was any stealing goi g on. I wanted to continue to believe that best of the person. I believed so much that I all but got myself into trouble.
The quick version of the story...I was in charge of the money coming in and out of the company..the other signature on the checks was the person one step up from…

I'm curious why in the US the term EMS Industry OR Business is employed rather than the proper term EMS PROFESSION . When one is making reference to Fire or Police the term is profession, not Industry. In canada the term Industry does not exist when making reference to those in our profession.
I think it is time the term industry be replaced by PROFESSION.

I seen all the supports for breast cancer throughout not only this site but many places. I was just wondering does anyone think of any other kid of cancer?( unless your life has been touched by a different form). But I have noticed that so many people who lives have not been or have been all have pins supporting breast cancer. But honestly more people die from all different types of cancer some more of a death sentence if you get it then breast cancer. I'm not saying that I don't support breast…

Stay alert behind the wheel and pull over when emergency vehicles approach. That’s the message from a series of new public service announcements (PSAs) from the John Petropoulos Memorial Fund (JPMF).
The print PSAs – which will be published in newspapers, magazines and online – depict an emergency vehicle in a driver’s side mirror, along with the words “Stay Alert” and “Pull Over.” They encourage drivers to yield the right of way to emergency vehicles that have their lights and sirens…
