Trinidad

Back in the spring early summer I had the opportunity to work on a research vessel in the Southern Atlantic, we were off the coast of Trinidad Tobago. If you are familiar with the Caribbean you know where it is, if not, well it is the southern most island in the Caribbean and is about 50 miles off the coast of Venezuela. While there we had the opportunity to spend time in port. So I got to see some of the country. It was quite a trip. But by far the most interesting adventure there was while… Continue

Highway 109

A drunk man in an Oldsmobile

They said had run the light

That caused the six-car pileup

On 109 that night.

When broken bodies lay about

And blood was everywhere,

The sirens screamed out elegies,

For death was in the air.

A mother, trapped inside her car,

Was heard above the noise;

Her plaintive plea near split the air:

Oh, God, please spare my boys!"

She fought to loose her pinned hands;

She struggled to get free,

But mangled… Continue

X-mas Medic

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Twas the night before Christmas, and all through station.

All was quiet except for our snoring Dalmatian.

Our boots had been placed by the bunk sides with care

In hopes that the shift change would finally be here.

The lights were turned down and the TV was off

The rigs had been washed and the floors had been mopped.

Firefighters and Medics lie nestled in bed

While visions of home life danced through their… Continue

Medic Fate

The medic stood and faced God ,Which must always come to pass.

He hoped his uniform was clean, He'd gotten dressed kind of fast. "

Step forward now, paramedic. How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek? To my church have you been true?"

The medic squared his shoulders and said,

"No Lord I guess I ain't, those of us who wade in blood, can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was… Continue

When God Made Paramedics

When God made paramedics, He was into His sixth day of overtime. An angel appeared and said, "You're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one." God said, "Have you read the specs on this order?

A Paramedic has to be able to carry an injured person up a wet, grassy hill in the dark, dodge stray bullets to reach a dying child unarmed, enter homes the health inspector wouldn't touch, and not wrinkle his uniform."

"He has to be able to lift three times his own weight. Crawl into wrecked… Continue

A Christmas Story

Something I wrote a while back.. Just thought some would like it.

A CHRISTMAS STORY

The red and white flashing lights blend in well with the holidays, but the scream of the siren reminds them that it is not a part of the scenery. Tensing up he knows that this maybe the one call he has been dreading, in the pit of his stomach nausea builds. This time of year brings the same foreboding feelings. He is waiting for it to happen, waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop.… Continue

Back on the big white taxi

Getting ready for work today and it's getting kind of depressing some days. Seems like all we have been doing is transfers and the same old frequent flyers. I don't remember the last time we did a good MVC or trauma call. I know, it's not like I want people to get hurt, but why are the ones who are getting hurt doing it not on my shift? Anyhow, we all have our lulls, just sucks when you are in the rut and can't see the other side.

We had our ratification vote the other day for our… Continue

Well, I just found this site the other day. Very facebookish I find, but it's nice to have a place for medics to talk and exchange information/ideas etc.

We had our union ratification vote yesterday to see if we are going to accecpt the tentative agreement or not, and if not it's also a strike vote. Not sure how it will go, but reguardless I'm going to work tomorrow and doing my job.

Here in Nova Scotia, probably the same as around the world, health care is in dire… Continue

Ghetto Medic Day Two

I have just come home from a twelve hour overtime shift. Let me tell you something folks, it was pretty damned cold tonight in Richmond. Had to wear the long sleeve button down plus underarmor plus a job shirt. Relatively quiet on the call volume, as it has been for me the past several shifts.

The workday has ended and I am now lying in the bed with my fiance and our two dogs, one is a beagle pup and the other one is seven year old golden retriever. Awesome end to decent… Continue

So my friends, we have come to yet another space on the big wide internet wherein I can blog about my thoughts, dreams, aspirations, and ambitions...Hopefully I will be more faithful to this one than I have been to the blog on myspace...LOL.
