Highway 109

A drunk man in an Oldsmobile
They said had run the light
That caused the six-car pileup
On 109 that night.
When broken bodies lay about
And blood was everywhere,
The sirens screamed out elegies,
For death was in the air.
A mother, trapped inside her car,
Was heard above the noise;
Her plaintive plea near split the air:
Oh, God, please spare my boys!"
She fought to loose her pinned hands;
She struggled to get free,
But mangled metal held her fast
In grim captivity.
Her frightened eyes then focuse… Continue

X-mas Medic

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Twas the night before Christmas, and all through station.
All was quiet except for our snoring Dalmatian.
Our boots had been placed by the bunk sides with care
In hopes that the shift change would finally be here.

The lights were turned down and the TV was off
The rigs had been washed and the floors had been mopped.
Firefighters and Medics lie nestled in bed
While visions of home life danced through their heads.

When out of the darkness, arose ringing and light
The Klaxton b… Continue

Medic Fate

The medic stood and faced God ,Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his uniform was clean, He'd gotten dressed kind of fast. "
Step forward now, paramedic. How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek? To my church have you been true?"
The medic squared his shoulders and said,
"No Lord I guess I ain't, those of us who wade in blood, can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was tough.
And at times I've been violent, cause t… Continue

Boston EMS personal are issued handcuffs because they are deputized, and only use them as such. When they slap the cuffs in a patient, they are doing it as deputy protecting and a person or persons from injury or self injury. They follow the police protocol, only thing added is that restrained patients have to be face up and hands not behind back.

Boston EMS is a very hard system to get on. You have to complete an written, practical, physical, and physiological exams. Complete a 6 month training course with FTOs that treat you like shit. Plus another 6 months of probation riding on city trucks with the same FTOs. Then and only then will you receive your badge and become a human being with rights again. They are the Best of the Best and start off an 24$hr. with plenty of gun shots and OT.
