WELCOME TEXAS MEDICS!!! From the Group Host

WELCOME Texas Medics!!! We finally have our own group page to meet and greet each other, exchange ideas, and tell war stories - just don't forget about HIPAA! We can also discuss operational and clinical issues such as assessment techniques, treatment modalities, protocol development, dispatch/response, community service, public education, and anything else you want to talk about! If you live and/or practice in TEXAS, then this is the place for you! Let's have some fun...

Lacy,
When it hits this close to home you are sometimes so busy you push that grieving process aside. Its easy for us to do because that mechanism is what allows us to do our jobs with objectivity and a calm demeanor when everyone else doesn't know what to do. Don't let those feelings get too far away. Talk to your co workers and family members and it will come out. Its not really unique or new info but time with those you love and trust will allow you grieve. They often are ready to help but don't know what to say or do. Aknowledge their support and ask for their patience...it will come.
I have been around for several LODD events in my career both as a new and seasoned Paramedic. As an Honor Guard member here with ATCEMS I have been to many funerals, Memorial services and Memorial events. Its always hard. It always gets better.
Myself and the other original members of our Honor Guard knew Tracy through our shared work paying respect and Honor to collegues who paid the ultimate price here in Central Texas. We feel a measure of your pain down here as well.
You are all in our thoughts and prayers here in Austin.
Let us know what we can do for you....

I just joined this site andreally hate to ask this, but have any of you had to deal with loosing your co-workers? As you guys have heard, there was an air medical plane crash in Alpine Sunday. I work for that company and those guys were my friends. I still haven't been able to cry, my husband keeps looking at me like I'm gonna flip out any moment (he works for the same company) and my non-ems friends are treating me like I might break in half. I know they all mean well, but it is starting to anoy me....if any of you have "been there", can you give me any ideas on how to deal....thanx

Hey Skydog,
Just joined the group-never met you but your name caught my attention. Must be a fan of Duane's. Say you like Texas and Okie music--ever listen to Watermelon Slim? He's another killer slide player. Mark

I'm glad you guys are enjoying the group page. I had to remove the original logo because it was trade marked by Mark Welch, the owner of TexasEMT.com. If anyone has any logos they'd like to suggest, let me know. Of course, unless you own it or it is public property, we can't use it here. I am creating one of my own for our use here. I hope you all enjoy the hot rod for now! BD

Hey Y'all...Skydog from South Carolina here...and why is someone from SC a member of the group for Texas medics you ask. The answer is pretty simple: In my many years as a Paramedic here in SC, I saw so many young, bright people come into EMS only to leave after a short time due to the "stress" of the job. They would always ask me "how do you stand it?" The reply was: "Find something away from EMS that you enjoy and make it your stress reliever" For me it's music...specifically the Red Dirt music that comes out of the Texas/OK area...No matter how much blood, guts, murder and mayhem I deal with during my shift, there's always the promise of taking off the uniform, putting on my "music clothes" and cranking up the Red Dirt! I've put some selected tunes on my page here on EMS United...it's not always politically correct, but it sure brings down the stress level!! And just think...y'all can hear it live!! Think about it...take care and be safe...
