Northwestern Washington State here-a very rural part of it. I'm an EMT with the all-volunteer department here-Joyce Fire and Rescue.

Delete Comment Hello, from Old Station, CA. We are a small town of 250, nestled in the mountains (actually between two volcanoes - Mt. Lassen & Mt. Shasta). We are a volunteer fire department with 6 active volunteers - three of which are EMTs - to cover a very large area. We have everything from bee stings to major trauma victims, wildland/structure/vehicle fires to smoke checks. The winters can be cold and heavy snow, and the summers hot and dry. Another summer is upon us and it looks to be another dry fire season and many tourists will be on the roads (usually driving too fast). To all my fellow volunteer responders - be safe!

an idea that you look at is a stoks streacher with a mt. bike tire on a frame and it will only take 4 people to move the patient out of the sticks.
just an idea.

I live in rual Mississippi, about 50 miles from the nearest major city. I'm station in a small town were we hardly ever get any "good stuff." Most of our calls are priority 2 calls, so no lights and sirens. I volunteer at 2 rural fire stations in my home town, way back in the sticks were a GPS never gives you the right directions so to all you "city" folks i hope you know how to read a E-911 map book...
To all my fellow responders stay safe.

I come from a small town in southwestern NH. I have been with EMS for 28 yrs. I moved to southeastern NC 3 yrs. ago for a semi retirement. We go back to NH the first of May thru Sept. and I work on the ambulance while we are there. I guess you would say that I am dedicated. I have just recerted for another 2 yrs. I also have 25 Yrs. with Emergency Management.

I volunteer for Crested Butte EMS. We're basically a little town stuck in the middle of BFE in the Rockies.

Cool, some more EMS professionals who live in the sticks!!! I hope to read some good comments. In my area it is pretty hot in the summer (up to 115-120) and in the winter not a lot of snow, but we do get it. Earlier this month they closed down all the highways because nobody knows how to drive in the stuff. I have a 4x4 and always carry chains and they wouldn't even let me through to go home. I had to spend the night in a local town until they opened the road about 8 am the next day. I could have made it home, no problem. I guess they figured no one on the road...no accidents. Yea, well...anyway we do get cold here, but its wind and dry cold mostly. It will drop to the low teens sometimes. I know they y'all out in the midwest and east are laughing so hard you fell out of the chair or off the couch, but it does get cold for us..it is all relative. So next time you work a code or a bad accident in 120 degree weather, let me know, and I will think about you in the ice and snow doing the very same thing...I am proud of us....really, really proud.

NW Oregon on the coast! Great fun. CreativeCelt, when you find a really good vehicle let me know. Currently we use quads which are good but difficult in deep snow. We have a litter carrier we hook to the hitch. Or we just do it the old fashion way and carry em!

I live in Alabama and most of it is rural. I work around the Bankhead National Forrest and at another service on the Mississippi line.
