Hey there, David! It may be because we are fellow Illinoisans, I live in Marion now, but lived just south of Springfield from 2000 to 2004. I spoke at the IEMTA conference in 2002. We (the Museum) have been in contact with the PCS on and off. If you ever have a strong desire to donate any of your 3 remaining ambulances to the Museum, we would love it. Though we have collected tons of equipment and textbooks, we are still looking for our first ambulance donation. P.S. When I was stationed in Izmir, Turkey, we had a 1972 Buick or Oldsmobile high top for an ambulance.

Hi Bob, For some reason your name is very familiar to me. Maybe we have crossed paths somewhere? I am interested in EMS History, especially vehicles. I used to be very active in an organization called the Professional Car Society. As my job became more demanding, the hobby has been put on the back burner. I still have a few oldies left. My favorite - a 1955 Miller Cadillac straight ambulance was the one I wanted to keep, but was the first out the door. I still have a 1975 Superior Cadillac hightop, a 1967 S&S Cadillac hightop and a 1938 Meteor LaSalle combination set-up as an ambulance.

Carl - as Tom Barlet is our webmaster, this question would best be directed to him.

I am the President of the Board of Trustees for the National EMS Museum Foundation, a two and a 1/2 year old not-for-profit organization that is "dedicated to memorializing and commemorating the history of EMS and the individuals and organizations that provide emergency care to the sick and injured." Over the past two+ years, we have created a Virtual Museum (nemsmf.org) and a Traveling Museum. We are constantly searching for equipment and vehicles that reflect our history - we accept pictures and real stuff. We have been very fortunate in having historic equipment, textbooks, photos, and other memorabilia donate, but are now in need of old ambulances. We also accept monetary donations and are always on the look out for those interested in being Regional Coordinators (visit the website for more information.
Our Traveling Museum has exhibited twice at EMS EXPO, twice at EMS Today, and once at NAEMSE (in St. Louis).
I'm looking forward to hearing from EMS community - especially the gray-haired crowd like me!
