To Ocie Flournoy, I respect your opinion that Roanoke is the best site, but I belong to an organization that is committed to Washington DC, our board consists fo EMTs & Paramedics from coast to coast and we believe the prestige of the nation's capital is fitting and lends a sense of national pride to the memorial. I can assure you that as long as I am associated with the memorial (which will be the rest of my life) it will NEVER fall into a state of disrepair. I also agree with you that the profession as a whole needs more attention and I work locally toward that goal. The purpose of this foundation however is singular and focused only on the memorial.

I believe that the Roanoke site is more appropriate, it was after all the home of EMS in the U.S. Why do we need another monument in D.C.? Have you seen the sad state of affairs at the WW1 Memorial? it is of to the side of the lower end of the mall and is in disrepair. A monument in D.C. that is dedicated to EMS will suffer the same fate until a greater value is placed on EMS by the Government. I don't refer to the DHS, I mean the poorer county services, Volunteer Ems and, lets face it, the backbone and training ground for most providers, The private services.

To William, I can't see "Skip's" post and therefore I can't respond (I don't know why, maybe it was removed?)
To Ocie Flournoy, there was a temporary memorial in the "to the rescue museum" in a mall in Roanoke, Va for some time, I also visited it for many years, This was the home of the "tree of life" memorial. That museum has been shut down for a few years now. As we speak there is no national memorial for EMS providers, hence our effort. We hope we can count on your support to fix that. Thanks for joining the group, Tony.

How about the Current EMS memorial located in Roanoake, Va.? I have been there, it does exist and predates you effort by some years.

Skip Your post said it very well. As you know I have participated in the National EMS Memorial Service for 8 or 9 years, and plan to do so again this year. The Service is sad, yet beautiful and a fitting tribute to our fallen brothers and sisters, who made the ultimate sacrafice, and to their families. The weekend is dedicated to them as is the Memorial Bike Ride.

The NEMSMF Inc is the collaborative effort of men and women who serve as EMTs & Paramedics across the country. This is a truly national endevor. The foundation is comprised of EMS providers from many major agencies including Boston, New York, Delaware, Pittsburgh, Detroit, San Francisco and Cleveland. If you share our vision and wish to make a donation you may do so to the address listed. Thank you and be safe.
