Hello all,

The National EMS Memorial Bike Ride will be setting off from Boston in a couple of weeks. EMS providers from across the country will be riding to Washington DC. The purpose of this anual ride is to honor those who have fallen and to raise awareness for EMS LODD. Is this not what Honor Guards are all about? Why don't you make it a point to meet these great men & women at the end of the ride and be a part of the closing ceremony? They are looking for Honor Guards to take part in the ceremony. Who's in?

The National EMS Memorial Bike Ride "Muddy Angels" will be conducting the East Coast Ride during EMS week May 14-20, 2011. The ride will begin in Boston, MA and end in Washington DC. There will be an ending ceremony of remembrance and celebration of EMS at the Westin Alexandria on May 21, 2011. We are looking for honor guard to be a part of this fabulous event. Please email me at jkscadden@gmail.com if you or your group would be interested. There were a great group of you who participated last year and I'd love to have you back. Thanks so much!

Thank you Tony for your words of support for the Muddy Angels. Nothing lifts the hearts of the cyclists more than to see and hear the honor gaurds of EMS and Fire services. The miles are long for the riders. Each rider has a story of loss - whether it be of a personal loss or for the loss of the profession as a whole, we grieve, we share, we celebrate the lives of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. I have been a paramedic for over 25 years and never have I seen or felt the love of brotherhood like I have felt with the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride. The honor gaurds of EMS and Fire services represent the pride and honor of our profession. On a personal basis, never have I felt more pride in my profession than when I have seen your presence at our ride. Thank you in advance for your discipline, sacrifice, and deidication. The riders of the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride are humbled by your presence. God speed.

The "Muddy Angels" the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride is rolling from Maine to DC May 15th-21st. They ride to raise awareness of EMS LODD. Wouldn't it be nice if we could line the streets with Honor Guards, Color Guards, Pipe & drum bands, uniforms from all over the country to welcome them to the Nation's capital?

Check out thier website for details www.muddyangels.com if you think your honor guard can attend send me a message and we'll co-ordinate the effort.

All the best,
Tony.

As a past EMS Chief who has gone through 2 LODD's, the EMS community-wide response and awareness still needs much more attention and well, pageantry. I now work FT in helping EMS as other emergency agencies to begin to realistically look at this fact "It's not a matter of if, but when this will strike your agency." Training and basic awareness is still lacking at a general level and the more those of us in EMS still need to get up to the levels and efforts that EMS LODD's deserve just as much as any other responder that is killed in the line. While we may be just beginning to catch up, I wish more EMS directors, mismanagement and other leadership people would take this more seriously and to take both an interest and the training now available in how to best prepare for what will be the event that will define you, as a leader for the rest of your career. The time to wonder and attempt to figure how to put together your plans IS not when the event is only a few minutes old. Here's a link about training now being offered at the New York State Fire academy: www.dos.state.ny.us/fire/academy.htm Thanks for listening!

We started our Lee County EMS Honor Guard about 10 years ago. Unfortunately it came out of need but we are proud to say we can honor those that gave all. We continue to expand and train as "budgets" and time allow, and I hope when I retire in a four years, this will be one of my legacies. We need to update our site, but check us out at www.lee-ems.com/ems.

Skip, I don't know why this board is silent, unless everyone is too busy with other things.--AB
