St Michael?
St Luke the Physician?
St John of God? (one of my favorites)
St Albert the Great?

I know St Michael is the traditional one, but the others have merit, too...

Getting back to serious, isn't Luke the Patron Saint of police? My vote would be still for Luke as the physician.
How about St. Jude, the patron saint of lost causes?

Saint Sigmund Freud -- we're all nuts for doing - or FROM doing -- this kind of work!
Hello all,

Doing some research in the area all the choices youve put fourth are fantastic.

Has anyone considered St. Martin de Porres who was cannonized on May 6, 1962 by Pope John Paul.
He is actually the closest thing to the Patron Saint of EMS that is on the books.

Just my 2 cents

Thank you all for doing whatever it is you do in EMS.

St. Michael is the patron saint of Soldiers.Police dopted it years ago.If you read Dante's Paradise Lost, you will understand, Micheal is the lead Arch Angel, he is the one that cast Satan from Heaven. Since his purpose is death, would he be a good Patron saint?

I agree with you on the history of St. Martin de Porres. While looking up the other Saints I read the story on St. Martin de Porres...... "At 12 his mother apprenticed him to a barber-surgeon. He learned how to cut hair and also how to draw blood (a standard medical treatment then), care for wounds and prepare and administer medicines.

After a few years in this medical apostolate, Martin applied to the Dominicans to be a "lay helper," not feeling himself worthy to be a religious brother. After nine years, the example of his prayer and penance, charity and humility led the community to request him to make full religious profession. Many of his nights were spent in prayer and penitential practices; his days were filled with nursing the sick and caring for the poor. It was particularly impressive that he treated all people regardless of their color, race or status."

I feel he would be a better suited St. for EMT's even though he is one of the Patron Saint of Barbers - Sts. Cosmas and Damian, St. Louis of France, St. Martin de Porres - http://www.americancatholic.org/Features/SaintOfDay/default.asp?id=...
